“Ugh, health blog, who cares?” If that’s your first thought, hold up! This ain’t your grandma’s health advice. We’re about to make getting healthy the most fun thing you’ve ever done. This blog is going to be all about you, your health, and a whole lot of fun along the way. Let’s dive in and discover how to make staying healthy exciting and making it an effortless habit.

Now, I could give you a list of do’s and don’ts that sound like your mom’s nagging (eat your veggies, get enough sleep, yada yada), but I’m not her so let’s talk about the real struggles we face as teens and young adults.

Let’s be real, teenage life is a wilder ride than you thought it would be. You got deadlines breathing down your neck, exams lurking like forgotten leftovers in the back of the fridge (you know they’re there, but you conveniently ignore them until they start growing their own ecosystem), and a to-do list longer than your last Netflix binge (who am I to judge, relax).

From battling the infamous “fresher’s fifteen” to dodging the temptation of double cheese margherita with cheese burst — we’ve all been there, and let’s not forget the gymnastics of balancing social life, academics, and that thing called “self-care.”

But fear not, because here’s where the fun kicks in. Let me Introduce the World Health Day Challenge! (Imagine me with arms in the air and a smile bigger than your maharaja mac)

For the next 24 hours, I challenge you to do one healthy thing every 2 hours. And no, I’m not talking about running a marathon or becoming a yoga guru. We’re talking simple, doable stuff like watering yourself (you know what I mean), taking a breather, or dancing like nobody’s watching (roommates don’t count).

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But why, though?” Well, let’s flip that question around. Why not? Why not make healthy living a game, a challenge, something that puts a smile on your face and makes your future self thank you for?

Imagine this: it’s 6 PM, and you’ve just survived a day of college or work (that felt longer than being stuck at your neighbour kid’s birthday party, the one your mom practically dragged you to), Instead, of rewatching ‘The Office’ for the 10th time, because apparently, watching Jim prank Dwight is more important than your own well-being, go out for a small walk around your neighbourhood (and start your own cult with the neighbourhood dogs or cats).

Now, let’s talk about incorporating health into your daily routine. Here’s a fun suggestion for a daily schedule that focuses on your well-being:

Morning:

  • Start your day with a glass of water
  • Do some stretches
  • Don’t skip breakfast

Midday:

  • Take a break from screens.
  • Remember to hydrate
  • Eat a nutritious lunch

Evening:

  • Read a book
  • Snack healthy with nuts or fruits
  • Reflect on your day with gratitude by jotting down three things you’re proud of
  • Power down electronics at least an hour before bedtime

And let’s not forget the power of laughter! You already know that laughter can boost your mood and reduce stress? So, don’t hesitate to share those bad jokes you can think off — (I’m not good with jokes either, just kidding) here’s one that just came to my mind — “What’s a ninja’s favourite type of shoes? …Sneakers” (wasn’t kidding I guess :/)

2024 marks the 76th anniversary of WHO, and as part of the celebration, WHO has chosen ‘My Health, My Right’ as the theme of World Health Day (7th April 2024). It’s a reminder that everyone has the right to access quality healthcare and make choices that promote their well-being. So, let’s make World Health Day the reminder to become the best version of yourself! It’s all about small steps to make healthy choices. You’ve got this! Cheers to a happier, healthier you!
