Hello readers, a warm greeting from the Juvenile Care family! Today, May 15th, we celebrate the International Day of Families, a day established by the UN to celebrate the importance of families in all their diverse forms. And let me tell you, there is no shortage of celebration.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about family, it’s that they come in all forms, each of them unique. Some are large and extended, while others are small and close knit. Whether they span generations or just consist of parent or just close friends, every family has its own share of stories to tell and love to share.

But you know what they say — you can’t pick your family. And thank goodness for that, because the craziness is what makes family life so much more interesting and fun!

No matter what your family looks like, I can guarantee it’s a mix of traditions and inside jokes. From banters at the dinner table to the sibling showdowns over who gets the TV remote, every family has its own moments that make you laugh and love the chaos. And you know what? That’s what makes it so special, the small family disputes, as crazy as they may seem, actually strengthen the bonds. So why not embrace the delightful chaos!

Here at Juvenile Care, I was taught that we don’t have to be just clubmates but a family bonded by our passion for making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children. Together, we work tirelessly to organize outreach events and fundraisers aimed at improving the quality of life for children in need. Our work especially with orphanages has taught us a lot about the importance of family.

So, let’s take a moment to think about those who might not have traditional family structure, like children in orphanages. Despite not having a typical family structure, they often find solace and genuine family like bonding among their peers and caregivers, who go above and beyond to create a nurturing environment to mimic a family’s love and support. It’s a reminder that family goes beyond blood relations, it encompasses the deep friendships and bonds we forge throughout our lives, providing strength and comfort that makes us a close-knit family.

In the midst of our busy lives, we often overlook the charm of family gatherings. Remember the delightful traditions passed down through generations, like grandma’s legendary Diwali sweets that always end up a little too sweet or the never-ending stories that bring laughter to our hearts.

Whether it’s a family dinner, or just a heartfelt phone call to let your loved ones know you’re thinking of them, take some time today to appreciate the people who are there for you no matter what.

In today’s digital age, families connect not just at the dinner tables but also through virtual gatherings online. Whether it’s that one uncle who sends daily motivational ‘good morning’ images on the family WhatsApp group or virtual game nights with cousins from across the globe, technology has made it easier for families to stay connected despite physical distances.

I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the importance of your own family. Reach out to your loved ones, share a meal together, or simply express your love and gratitude for their presence in your life. And if your family situation is complicated, remember that you always have the chance to make things right and make choices that might take a little bit of sacrifice but a choice you will look back and thank yourself for making.

Let’s not forget the power of forgiveness and reconciliation within families. We all have our moments of disagreement, but it’s the ability to forgive and move forward that strengthens the bonds of love and unity. So, let’s raise a toast to family resilience and the unwavering support that carries us through life’s ups and downs.

Also, let’s not forget the role of family in shaping our identities. From childhood lessons to adult guidance, our families play a significant part in moulding who we are. They instil values, teach us life skills, and provide a support system that’s irreplaceable.

After all, where else in the world can you find a group of people who will laugh with you, cry with you and love you unconditionally, even when you’re being a total weirdo. Family is a gift, so let’s cherish that.
